Year: Purdue’s Second Degree Program
Major: Nursing
About Me: I’m a born and bred Boilermaker who grew up as the daughter of two educators. I’m from a small town just north of Purdue called Reynolds, IN. I have already graduated from Purdue once with a Bachelor’s in Public Health, but I just couldn’t stay away. I’m back currently pursuing a Bachelor’s in Nursing through Purdue’s Accelerated Second Degree program! In my first four years at Purdue, I had the joy of pouring my heart into the incredible organization that is Dance Marathon and have been serving as a Resident Assistant for the past 3 years. I also just spent my last summer working at a camp for children with all sorts of varying abilities, which changed my entire world for the better. I obviously have a burning passion for service, education, and working with children/other people, which is what led me to join LifeGuides this past year. I had the most incredible experience helping out with the Special Education Program and growing closer to the wonderful community we have here at St. Tom’s. God put it on my heart to get more involved, so I applied for the intern position. I am overjoyed to be working alongside so many other dedicated disciples of Christ as we educate and inspire our future generations to grow closer to God this coming year!
Favorite Bible Verse: “Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.” – Mark 12: 41 – 44
I love this passage because it reminds me to be a giver, even when it’s hard. We are called to live our lives for Christ and to act as he would. When times got tough for Jesus, He did not turn away and take the easy route; He put his faith in his father and gave all he had because he knew this is what God wanted. He knew God would take care of him no matter what happened, so long as he was doing as his father asked. Everything Jesus did was done to please God, and I want to do the same with my own life. Being a future nurse, an RA, and holding many other servant-minded positions, I often work myself to the bone caring for others. A wise priest once told me it is easy to get burned out if we forget who we’re doing all these good things for. When I feel as though I have nothing left in my tank, I look to this passage so I remember to give all that I have until I have nothing left… and then to give just a little bit more because that is what God has asked of me; because that is how I glorify Him each day.
