How I got involved at St. Tom’s:
After surviving my freshman year of “college” (if we want to call it that, despite there being no one to see, nowhere to go, and nothing to do… thank you, epidemic shutdowns). I was starting sophomore year with no real friends and a struggling hope for a better semester. I don’t really recall how or why I started to hang around the St. Tom’s basement so much—I think I had heard that that was the hangout spot to meet people—but I soon found myself surrounded by friends who I now consider to be almost a second family!
Favorite Bible verse:
Psalm 27:1: “The Lord is my light and my salvation, of whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life, of whom shall I be afraid?”
My name means “God is my light.” When I learned that, I immediately called home and thanked my mom. The imagery of light and darkness has always stood out to me and this verse is no different. I try to remind myself every day to be a reflection of God’s light to the world. With God, I have no one to be afraid of, and nothing can hold me back except myself. If I hold fast to Him, He will help me become everything I am meant to be. He is a good Father who is always with me and wants the best for me.
About me:
I was blessed to be born to a loving family. My mom is a Lutheran school teacher who took 20 years off teaching to raise 6 children with my Catholic engineer father. Because of their difference in religion, I went to Lutheran grade school and received the Catholic sacraments. It was not until after confirmation that I started growing interested in really learning about my faith, and not until college that I leaned into making it my own. I grew up with three brothers and two sisters raising pigs, assorted poultry, and goats on a small family farm. My hobbies include swing and square dancing, watching and re-watching movies, being with friends and family, and learning as much as I can about anything I find interesting at the current moment. I will be student teaching this coming May and graduating at the end of the semester.
