Shining a Light on Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is a form of modern slavery that occurs in every state, including Indiana. Hosted by St. Tom's Justice with Peace Planning Team, the following events will create greater awareness of this social justice issue and how to help.

• Friday, April 19 -  A viewing of "The Sounds of Freedom" will take from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Newman Hall. Based on the true story of a man's mission to rescue children from the darkest parts of the world, this movie shines a light on the painful reality of child trafficking and the valiant efforts of those who work tirelessly to combat it. Co-exclusive with Angel Studios.
• Monday, April 22 - Lt. Dan Long from the Lafayette Police Department Special Victims Unit and Theresa Chamblee from the Archdiocese of Indianapolis will speak from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in Newman Hall about the reality of human trafficking in our community and how we can help prevent it.

On average, the National Human Trafficking Hotline (NHTH) annually receives more than 500 reports from the state of Indiana, including more than 150 from victims seeking help.
