An internationally renowned leader, Carolyn's book provides observations and stories about effective leadership and the ever-evolving role of women in the Catholic church. The talk will take place on Monday, March 6, at 7:00 p.m. in Newman Hall. In addition, our outreach partner for this month is the YWCA Empowerment Services. Brenda Renaldo, community services manager, will share more about this area resource that empowers our citizens to feel safe, self-sufficient, and supported while breaking the cycle of poverty and its Strive and Dress for Success programs.Since leadership in the Catholic Church is often identified with sacramental ministry, most perceive that women have no influence in the church. Carolyn Woo examines this perception and offers the myths and reality of women’s leadership in Catholic Ministries. She names critical capacities needed and the challenges women often face in their leadership journeys. Drawing on her faith, scholarship, and leadership experiences across diverse sectors, she holds a mirror to the current situation and presents a balanced overview with humor and insights.”
About Presenter Carolyn Woo:
Dr. Woo came from Hong Kong to Purdue University in 1972. Soon, she was drafted onto the Purdue faculty, became a full professor, and then moved into administration. In 1997 she became dean of the Mendoza College at the University of Notre Dame, where she cultivated quality teaching in all business disciplines. Dr. Woo served as CEO of Catholic Relief Services (2012-16), overseeing humanitarian relief and sustainable development in one hundred countries with a hundred million people annually. She is recognized for her writing, especially for a better world and women’s leadership.
