Home Ministries Study JustMatters

Just Matters

JustMatters is a 6-8 week module that focuses on one social justice topic.

Beginning FEBRUARY 2011 a JustMatters module focusing on IMMIGRATION will be forming at St. Toms.

We will meet from 7-9:30pm on Monday evenings, beginning February 7.  We will discuss the topic of immigration within the context of the Crossing Borders module.  More information can be found on the JustFaith website, http://www.justfaith.org/programs/justmatters-m_crossingborders.html.

JustMatters is open to all student and resident parishioners.  If you've participated in JustFaith before you are more then welcome to join us, if you haven't, we welcome you too.  This module is intended to dive into the Catholic Social Teaching surrounding the topic of immigration.  Over the course of 8 weeks we will watch videos, have directed reading, and participate in a Border Crossing/Service day in the area.

Readings are from the following books which will be provided to you for a fee with the course.

International Migration, A Very Short Introduction by Khalid Koser

A Promised Land, A Perilous Journey, Theological Perspectives on Migration, Edited by Daniel G. Groody and Gioacchino Campese

Globalization, Spirituality, and Justice by Daniel G. Groody

Commitment to the full 8 weeks is mandatory as our goal is to form a small faith community that is interested in social justice.

  • St. Magdalen of Canossa (April 10, 2012)
Wealth and privilege did nothing to prevent today's saint from following her calling to serve Christ in the poor. Nor did the protests of her relatives, concerned that such work was beneath her.
